Another adventure begins

And so, another adventure begins. Randy and I are first heading up to Idaho for about 10 days to watch the eclipse, the first one in about a hundred years that can be seen across most of the United States in a swath that goes roughly from Portland OR to Greenville SC. For the history-of-eclipses among you, this is from Wikipedia:

“The August 2017 eclipse will be the first with a path of totality crossing the US’s Pacific coast and Atlantic coast since1918. Also, its path of totality makes landfall exclusively within the United States, making it the first such eclipse since the country’s independence in 1776. (The path of totality of the eclipse of June 13, 1257, was the last to make landfall exclusively on lands currently part of the US.)”

About a month after that little trip—for us, if we’re going to go someplace, we want to GO!—we will leave on a cruise. This is definitely a cruise for people who just really would prefer not to fly. We leave San Diego in September heading generally westward to Australia and continue all the way around OZ (might as well get used to it, OZ is easier to write than Australia!). We get off the ship (Holland America’s Maasdam in Sydney after 55 days and stay on dry ground for three days, getting back on the Amsterdam (spending a night on her before actually starting back) for out cruise back to San Diego.

Along the way we’ll get to catch up with our son and daughter-in-law in Sydney and see some old and new friends from the ‘round-the-world cruise we took in 2012. We’ll see more old friends in Brisbane and Tauranga (New Zealand) as well. I’m already making some new friends on CruiseCritic in the Roll Calls for our three cruises and will be joining some of them on private tours in various cities in OZ.

Hello world!

Just starting out with my WordPress blog on traveling with my husband, both seniors who have been traveling for our entire 55 year married life. We do love to travel, especially cruising! We’ve been around the world and around South America on a cruise ship and a taken quite a few other watery and earthly voyages as well. I’ll be back soon with an update on our planning of a cruise from San Diego to Sydney and around Australia and then back home, all on a cruise ship. Lots of interesting things happen on a cruise and in the planning of a cruise. Stay tuned!
